It Started in an Airport.
A few years ago, Stacey McLaughlin was standing in JFK looking for a plushie for her kids. The options were what you'd expect: generic I Love New York bears and foam Statue of Liberty crowns. Nothing that felt personal or meaningful.
She wanted something that actually looked like New York. Something she could hold up next to a map and say: we were here. That's where we're from.
That question turned into California and Massachusetts, the first two Stuffed States she ever made. When people started writing back to say things like I sent this to my daughter at college and she cried, or I bought my state because I've lived in California for 30 years and I still miss New England, she knew she was onto something real.
Stuffed States is still one great idea being taken seriously. It's in hotel gift shops, capital gift stores, and museum shops across the country. And it started the way every good thing does: someone noticed something missing and decided to make it.
Here's the thing about a place: it stays with you. The state you're from, the college town you left, the city where something important happened. Stuffed States exists for all of it.
The Send-Off
